Käseleberkäse with Jalapenos

(old post transferred to new website)

Peter loves this stuff and buys it by the kilo, which surprises me, because he is so very Austrian about food. To use a very sweeping generality, they give spicy the stink eye.

But this stuff is made in Austria, and is based off of Käseleberkäse (Leberkäse with bits of cheese in it).

According to Wikipedia, Leberkäse consists of corned beef, pork and bacon and is made by grinding the ingredients very finely and then baking it as a loaf in a bread pan until it has a crunchy brown crust.

Doesn’t that just sound yummy? Ugh.

But you stick some bits of cheese in it and it really is suddenly crazy good.

I really don’t know why they have to go nuts with all of the chilies and peppers , it seems just… out of place to me.

The  whole point though is that you have to eat it hot.

Generally, I am the one slicing it, roughly the width of your pinky finger, and sticking it in the microwave for a minute and half.

Take it out and slap it on some kind of white bread and I have a happy Austrian.

Semmel is preferred, but any white bread will do, as you can see in the picture.

If I come home from work tired and worn out and can’t even deal with cooking supper, this makes it easy.

As long as I don’t have to eat it.
